Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Exhibits Intern interested in dedicating 50 weeks in support of the National Park Service by directly assisting Resource Specialists with cultural resource preservation and interpretation/education at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

Start Date: Late January 2018 (flexible for the right candidate)

End Date: 50 weeks from the start date

Compensation: The ACE Intern will serve part time for ~20hrs/week and receive a weekly living allowance of $230 paid biweekly for food and incidentals.

AmeriCorps Education Award: This internship position is eligible for a 900-hour AmeriCorps Education award ($2,907.50) upon successful completion of internship service hours. Additional enrollment is required.

Position Description: The ACE Exhibits Intern will learn or sharpen their skills in the use of hand and power tools, artifact arranging, the application of a range of finishes regarding the preservation of cultural resources at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park.  The ACE intern will assist with preparation, installation, and maintenance of existing displays relating to the wide-range of cultural resources in the Park. Additionally, the ACE intern may also be involved in the fabrication and installation of new  interpretive projects  throughout the park.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in the natural resource management field or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.  A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable.  

Required:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. 
  • Intern must be between the age of 18 to 35.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals within NPS.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Must have effective communication skills with diverse audiences, ability to serve alone and in a group.
  • Knowledge and interest in cultural resource/history preservation and education.
  • Ability to serve outdoors and in confined spaces. 
  • Some tasks require one to climb on 12' ladders.
  • Must be able to lift able 40 LBs and walk 2 miles/day.
  • Basic woodworking skills using hand tools (experience with power tools is a plus).
  • Basic electrical skills (low voltage and 110V).
  • Experience troubleshooting AV systems is a plus (Alcorn Mcbride, BrightSign, projectors and sound systems).
  • Painting and waterproofing skills for existing maintenance program.
  • English proficiency is imperative.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.

The interns must be willing to represent ACE and the NPS in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.  Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
