Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit conservation corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Facility Management Software System (FMSS) Intern interested in dedicating 12-weeks to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site.

 

The Intern will primarily assist the Facility Management staff with continued implementation of the NPS computerized Facility Management Software System (FMSS). This will involve going around to each location throughout the Parks and collect data on all of the assets at these structures/grounds (locations) by doing site surveys. Then after the data is collected, start the process of inserting the data into FMSS. Facility Management interns will also assist with field condition assessments of the preserve's trails, roads, grounds, buildings and utilities.

End Date: 8/23/2019

Compensation : The ACE intern will serve approximately 40 hours/week and receive a living allowance of $560/week for food, housing, and incidentals paid out biweekly.  An additional travel reimbursement not-to-exceed $650 is available.

 

Background:  Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is located in Plains, Georgia. Plains is a rural community in Southwest Georgia with full services available in Americus, GA (10 miles); Albany, GA (40 miles); and Columbus, GA (50 miles).

  

Position Description: Learning the computer applications that are used with in the Facility Management Division is a central component of this internship. This data entry includes:

 

  • work orders, job plans, safety plans, daily work activities
  • supply and material purchases
  • vehicle and equipment records
  • utility costs
  • asset specification information
  • asset deficiency data
  • project cost estimates

 

During their internship they will be assigned a project to complete before their internship ends.

  

Qualifications: Strong computer skills are essential and required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as MS Word and Excel programs is necessary. An understanding of the tools, materials and practices utilized in construction trades and maintenance operations is desired. Ability to communicate orally and in writing is critical. Experience working independently with little or no direct supervision is also desired. A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable.  

 

Required:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must be 18 to 35 years old
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals within NPS
  • Must have a validdriver's license; clean driving record, and ability to provide documentation
  • A self-starter, independent, organized and motivated
  • Willing to perform duties indoors and outdoors when needed
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to educate guests of all backgrounds about programs and Park information
  • Ability to carry out projects adequately with minimal supervision

  

Preferred:

  • Experience and/or knowledge in the mission of the NPS and other federal land management agencies. 
  • The interns must be willing to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.  Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
