CRDIP Cultural Resource Management Intern- AmeriCorps

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a Non-Profit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, Rock Creek Park is seeking ONE Cultural Resource Management Intern interested in dedicating 10 weeks in support of National Park Service. This is an opportunity for the prospective intern to learn more about the broad scope of cultural resource management at Rock Creek Park.

This excellent opportunity is ideal for an enthusiastic young professional who is deeply committed to the preservation of our national parks.

Start Date: June 5, 2017

End Date: August 11, 2017

Duration: A 10 week duration is required

Compensation: $480/week, $640 relocation allowance

Housing: Park housing is available at no cost to the intern. 

AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 300 hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($1,221.96) upon successful completion of the term.

 

Position Description: The internship has five activities to be conducted over the 10 weeks.  These are critical projects central to park's current cultural resource program. It is envisioned that each activity will take approximately 2 weeks. 1) Assist park CR Manager conduct site visits and document condition.  Update park ASMIS system with this information.  2) Assist in completion of Phase I Survey and archaeological site documentation at Little Forest.  3) Update Piney Branch precolonial Native American lithic quarry NR Nomination. 4) Work with park interpretation and education staff to develop education program about precolonial Native American inhabitants of the region. 5) Assist with annual museum inventory. 

Mentoring: Intern will be under the guidance of the Cultural Resource Program Manager for Rock Creek Park. The intern will be working directly with them on all of these projects.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their skills and experience through their resume and application and be in pursuit of or have a 4-year degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, public history, or relevant field. A passion for cultural resource management is required for this position.

Required:

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident
  • Intern must be between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Ability to undergo a federal criminal history check
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Precise attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct archaeological fieldwork without limitation or restrictions

Preferred:

  • Experience cataloging/inventorying artifacts

 

The intern must be willing to represent ACE and the NPS in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing
