Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Archives Technician Intern interested in dedicating 50 weeks in support of the National Park Service by assisting with a variety of projects in the documentation, organization, care, and preservation of Park archival collections. Primary responsibilities will include archival collections management activities such as holdings maintenance, inventory, processing, rehousing and storage of archival collections.

Compensation: The ACE Intern will serve part time for ~20hrs/week and receive a weekly living allowance of $230 paid biweekly for food and incidentals. Housing is not provided, so local applicants are highly encouraged to apply.

 

AmeriCorps Education Award: This internship position is eligible for a 900-hour AmeriCorps Education award ($2,907.50) upon successful completion of internship service hours. Additional enrollment is required.

 

Position Description: The ACE Intern will perform entry level projects equivalent to an Archives Technician who is involved with archival collections care. The Park's Archivist will provide day-to-day technical supervision including projects assignments. The ACE Intern will assist with a variety of projects in the documentation, organization, care, and preservation of Park archival collections. Primary responsibilities will include archival collections management activities such as holdings maintenance, inventory, processing, rehousing and storage of archival collections.

Additional duties may include:

  • Assisting with the intake and preparation of new, incoming collections.
  • Observing Museum Acquisition Committee meetings.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in the natural resource management field or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.  A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable. 

Required:

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. 
  • Intern must be between the age of 18 to 35 (interns must be 21-35 to apply for any ACE position that requires or anticipates operation of agency or ACE vehicles for duties.)
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals within NPS.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Must have effective communication skills with diverse audiences, ability to serve alone and in a group.
  • Must be physically able to lift heavy objects (up to 40lbs.) and climb a step-ladder.
  • Comfortable with a fair amount of physical activity and a willingness to "get dirty".
  • Proficient with basic computer software.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.

Preferred:

  • Education in archives management.
  • Knowledge of archival collection management principles and practices.
  • Detail-oriented.

The interns must be willing to represent ACE and the NPS in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.  Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
