Summary:  American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Exhibits Intern interested in dedicating 50 weeks in support of the National Park Service by directly assisting Resource Specialists with cultural resource preservation and interpretation/education at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.  This excellent opportunity is ideal for an enthusiastic young professional who is deeply committed to the preservation of our national parks!

 

Start Date:  February 4, 2019

End Date:  January 18, 2020

*A 50-week Commitment is required*

Compensation:The ACE Intern will serve part time for ~20hrs/week and receive a weekly living allowance of $230 paid biweekly for food and incidentals.

 

AmeriCorps Education Award:This internship position is eligible for a 900-hour AmeriCorps Education award ($2,960) upon successful completion of internship service hours. Additional enrollment is required.

 

 

Position Description:The ACE Exhibits Intern's primary duties will be to assist in the writing, research, and production for multiple ongoing projects throughout the park. They will also assist the Visual Information Specialist in production of the final deliverables. This will include assisting with the preparation of final production files, selection of print materials and substrates, printing and mounting of materials, as well as working with outside vendors when the work cannot be done in-house. They will work alongside the Exhibit Specialist to learn (or expand their knowledge of) the proper usage of the hand and power tools used in production and installation of exhibits throughout the park. This will include assisting with both the installation of new exhibits, as well as ongoing maintenance of existing park exhibits. Secondary duties for the ACE intern will be providing assistance to the staff of the Cultural Resources Division. This will include researching, cataloging and photographing artifacts, as well as storage of artifacts.  

  

Qualifications:Applicants must have a degree (or be pursuing towards a degree) in the natural resource management field or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.  A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable. 

 

Required:

 

  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. 
  • Intern must be between the age of 18 to 35.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals within NPS.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Must have effective communication skills with diverse audiences, ability to work alone and in a group.
  • Knowledge and interest in cultural resource/history preservation and education;
  • Deep interest in ecology, history, caving and respect for nature is critical. 
  • A strong demonstrated interest and/or education in the field of natural and cultural resources.
  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • English proficiency is imperative.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required.

 

The interns must be willing to represent ACE and the NPS in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.  Drug users should not consider applying, as ACE reserves the right to require drug testing.
