Summary: American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with Glacier National Park, is seeking one Information Technology member as part of the 2023 National Park Service Academy cohort. During this 14-week position and additional one week March Experience, the member will learn skills that will translate well to a Tier 1 level IT position as well as being exposed to some higher tiered tasks with assistance from the IT team. There will be an emphasis on building cyber security and customer service skills while simultaneously learning about the National Park Service (NPS) as a career path.

About NPS Academy: National Park Service Academy aims to support the development of a more representative NPS workforce by connecting dynamic, young adults through an experiential program designed around three themes - Connections, Diversity, Legacy. Through participation, members build their conservation ethic, intercultural awareness, and career readiness skills and competencies. NPS Academy introduces participants to the NPS Universal Competencies that are foundational to all NPS career paths within a cohort of like minded peers.

Living Allowance: Members are expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $480/week (less any applicable taxes) to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. NPS Academy allowances are designed to prepare members for similar allowance structure at entry level positions at their service site and some variation exists due to local cost of living differences.

Housing: NPS Academy members will be accommodated in provided park service housing at no cost for the duration of the term.

Scheduling: This member will work a 5/4/9 schedule, with every other Friday off and all Saturdays and Sundays off.

Position Description: The IT Member will work directly with Information Technology professionals of Glacier National Park. This position will serve as Help Desk support for all Glacier National Park employees. They will manage footprint help desk tickets, phone calls, emails, and will work to resolve Tier 1 (base level) IT related issues with the support of other IT Staff.

They will travel to other remote sites in the park as needed.

In addition, this position will work on projects with our Radio and Telecom Team. They will assist with troubleshooting missions and equipment installs throughout the park.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Skills and Experience: An important reminder, all skills needed for this position will be trained on the job. A good attitude, curiosity for learning, and a willingness to positively contribute to the team are the only prerequisites to finding success.

Essential skills and experience: Basic troubleshooting of computer components and end-user computer equipment. Customer service skills and responding to Tier I (base) level incidents. Knowledge of Workstations and software to include imaging Operating Systems and installing Software. Isolating outages and finding commonality with problems that can occur in a remote environment.

Additional skills and experience that are helpful: Knowledge of Network switching, Server Administration and Active Directory, and other servicing infrastructure.

Skills and experience that members will gain from this position: Applicants will gain a wide variety of exposure to operating a LAN (Local Area Network) in a remote environment. Building skills that will translate well to a Tier 1 level IT position as well as being exposed to some higher tiered tasks with assistance from the IT team. There will be an emphasis on cyber security and customer service skills.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:Please use this information to determine personal ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Physical Demands:-The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required.-Requires the ability to walk up to five miles over uneven terrain in extreme weather conditions and stand on their feet for lengthy periods of time.

Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: -Frequently moves up to 25 pounds, occasionally moves up to 50 pounds.

Vision Requirements: -Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus. A large portion of the time will be in front of a computer screen

Environmental: -Primary work location will be in an indoor office setting.-Work takes place both in indoor and outdoor settings. Work can include moderate risks or discomforts that require safety precautions (e.g., exposure to extreme temperatures, climates, rough terrain, wild animals, pests, and insects.)

Travel: - Travel in a federal vehicle from site to site and across the park is required. This will happen on an as needed basis and will be accomplished in day trips. No overnight travel is required.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. PLC projects are subject to specific eligibility requirements such as age and citizenship.
