ACE EPIC / NPS State Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division Disaster Recovery Fellowship

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a Nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking one Disaster Recovery Fellowship to primarily assist STLPG (State Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants) division staff with cultural resource programs through grants to states, tribes, territories, and other eligible recipients that support the preservation of America's historic places and diverse history. 

 

Start Date:  Fall 2018 (can be flexible for the right candidate)

End Date: 52 weeks from the start date

Compensation:  The ACE Fellow will contribute ~40 hours/week receiving $800/week (a $20/hr equivalent) paid out biweekly for food, housing and incidental living expenses. Finding housing accommodations is the responsibility of the Fellow.

 

Position Description: State, Tribal, Local, Plans and Grants Division (STLPG) is a national program at National Park Service (NPS) headquarters office that supports cultural resource programs through grants to states, tribes, territories, and other eligible recipients.

The fellow will assist the team lead and program staff with integrating project information and other documentation related to disaster recovery grant-assisted work into data sets and case studies.

Projects include:

  • Undertakings with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices (THPOs) for recovery efforts with subgrants made to private property owners, local governments, and nonprofit organizations for Hurricanes
    • Sandy,
    • Harvey,
    • Irma, and
    • Maria
  • Coordinating with planning staff to review state Historic preservation plans in affected areas and update draft model disaster recovery ordinances.
  • Reviewing and cataloguing products from grantees to develop case studies for best practices related to disaster recovery, resilience, and preparedness as it relates to historic preservation that involves private property owners, local, tribal and state governments, as well as cross-jurisdictional partnerships.
  • Developing working relationships with preservation partners at the State, Tribal and local levels. 

Duties will involve exposure to historic preservation grants management, disaster recovery, planning, and publication development, and understanding of the Federal Preservation Program.

 

Qualifications: The Fellow must be resourceful, adaptable, and able to work comfortably alone or in a group.

 

Required:

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • 18 to 35 years old
  • Must have a valid driver's license; clean driving record, and the ability to provide documentation
  • Able and willing to work in an office setting at a computer
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control on databases
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to undergo a federal criminal background check is required
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.

 

Preferred:

  • Effective communication skills with all ages and diverse audiences
  • Knowledge and use of social media in a professional context
