Location Details/Description: A local residence anywhere in Arizona is preferred during the time of this project, but we could be able to make an exception for the right candidate.

Position Overview: This position will oversee 3 field crews collecting AIM data for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and ensuring accurate, robust data. AIM is the program that the BLM uses to assess the condition of our public lands. It primarily focuses on data for plant communities and soil characteristics. It is highly important openly available data source that is used by BLM, scientists, land owners and more.

Crews work a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off. These are called hitches. Over the course of the season, they will be collecting data across 4 different district offices from the Arizona Strip in the north to Tucson in the south, with different seasonal requirements. This position is focused on ensuring that crews are able to collect during the correct phenological window and that the data meets all required standards to enter into the national database. This involves working with field staff, the project manager, and BLM employees to coordinate logistics. It may also require periodically working in the field with crews to fine-tune collection methods or pick up slack as needed.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Attend mandatory training on March 7th
  • Use GIS and Survey 123 to assign collection points to crews
  • Plan timing and location of hitches to ensure timely collection
  • Ensure access is available to necessary points
  • Perform quality control on crew data after every hitch
  • Identify and Communicate any data errors and alter schedules to correct them
  • Assist / train crews in appropriate techniques as needed

Schedule: The exact schedule will primarily be up to the discretion of the applicant hired. However there will be a few trainings / responsibilities that will require working at a specific time and location, potentially over a couple weekends.

Position Benefits

Wage: The employee will receive $30/hr plus overtime. The employee will also either receive insurance or an additional wage to offset the cost of procuring insurance.

Housing: Housing is not provided by ACE and is the responsibility of the employee.

Relocation Allowance: A relocation reimbursement might be available depending on funding and costs.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specifically you will receive a full AIM training in early March.
