Summary

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking one Administrative Member to contribute to park maintenance projects alongside Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park staff.

Location Details/Description: Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, GAOcmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is rich in both cultural history and natural beauty. Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park has more than 12,000 years of continuous human habitation. Ocmulgee is also the ancestral homeland of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is known for its cultural history, but it has an abundance of nature as well. The park's 1,860 acres encompass many natural features and ecosystems, such as upland fields and forests, as well as wetlands along Walnut Creek and Ocmulgee River. These diverse natural resources and habitats are utilized by a rich variety of wildlife, including several endangered and threatened species.

Position Overview: The ACE member will work alongside administrative staff at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park.

Duties may include:

  • Work with park administration to organize and file park records. This will include but not limited to setting up a new filing system, taking current file codes and converting to a new system, and maintaining files.
  • Update park's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and guidelines by reviewing for outdated materials, typing, and sending updates for appropriate Division Chief, developing and maintaining a list of SOPs, setting up a SOP Library, and updating in park One Drive.
  • Develop a system for better organization and labeling of park digital files, working with the Park IT Specialist on how a shared drive should be organized, updating outdated materials, and providing training to staff on when and how to add to files.
  • Assist Resource Management with Archival files, updating and maintaining current and future files.
  • Assist NPS staff with general visitor information in person, via phone, email, etc.
  • Assist NPS staff with development and/or updating park's Safety Data Sheets binders.
  • Assist NPS staff with other administrative duties.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: M-F, 7:30am-4pm

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $600/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age and citizenship. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. The ACE Member will be eligible for a $500/month reimbursable housing allowance for up to 10 months.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required two-part criminal history check.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred:

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing an associates degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as information technology, archives, customer service, and public administration.
  • High attention to detail and excitement for organizational systems.
  • Deep interest in the National Park Service.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Manual dexterity required for use of various tools, computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 10 lbs., ability to move up to 10 pounds.
  • Environmental: Outdoor and indoor conditions. Work environment conditions can change frequently, working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates. Indoor office environment conditions where indoor air quality is good, and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position does not require unique travel.

Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the NPS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
