Archives Fellowship - Northeast Museum Services Center

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service and the Northeast Museum Services Center, is seeking an Archives Fellow to contribute to a variety of projects in the documentation, organization, care, and preservation of Park archival collections alongside Northeast Museum Services Center staff. Start Date: April 3, 2023

End Date: January 5, 2024

*a 40-week minimum commitment is required*

Location: Northeast Museum Services Center in Charlestown Navy Yard (Charlestown, MA). To learn more about the Northeast Museum Services Center, please visit their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/NPS.NMSC/.

Position Overview: The Fellow will be responsible for cataloging the NPS records related to the Home of FDR, Val-Kill, and Vanderbilt Mansion under the supervision of the Archivist at the Northeast Museum Services Center (NMSC) in Charlestown, MA. Park records, organizational records, and personal papers are included in the project.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Fellow is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $900/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS; free parking is available.

Qualifications

Required

  • Possess or be in pursuit of a MLIS or Master's degree in History
  • Knowledge of archival collection management principles and practices
  • Strong command of historical research skills and ability to synthesize information acquired through research
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Proficient with basic computer software
  • Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of ID's upon hiring)
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required two-part criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation
