American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) and through the Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program, is seeking a Tribal Relations Member to assist in supporting Tribal co-stewardship arrangements with the Northeast Region's Office of Native American Affairs. The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) is a professional development internship that introduces students and recent graduates, from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the National Parks, to career opportunities within Cultural Resource Management in the NPS. CRDIP participants will have the opportunity to attend several professional development webinars as well as write blogs or create videos about their projects throughout their term. This position is classified as a DHA (Direct Hire Authority) Internship. DHA positions target exceptional, current upper-level undergraduate or graduate students that are interested in pursuing careers with the NPS. DHA positions will be rigorous internships that develop the participant's technical and creative thinking abilities, leadership skills, and problem-solving capabilities. DHA applicants will be involved in cultural resource management projects that generate data and/or research that must be analyzed and presented to various stakeholders at the end of the internship. After successful completion of the internship, and graduation from their degree program, the intern will receive DHA non-competitive hiring eligibility.

Location: Northeast Region (NERO) Office of Native American Affairs (ONAA)

The Office of Native American Affairs (ONAA) is within the Office of the Director of the National Park Service (NPS). The ONAA represents NPS-Tribal Relations and supports policy review, implementation, and a robust working relationship with Native American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Alaska Native communities. The ONAA is led by the Native American Affairs Liaison, who supports NPS staff with training, consultation guidance, and technical support. The Native American Affairs Liaison also supports tribal governments and Indigenous people in their work with NPS on multiple topics, including park policy, access, youth engagement, partnerships, and collaborative agreements with self governance Tribes.

Position Overview:

The Tribal Relations Member will assist with implementation of Joint Secretarial Order 3403 (Order), which acknowledges that Tribal nations can and must play an important role in the management of lands and waters the Federal government has been entrusted to manage for the benefit of all Americans. The Order recognizes the Federal Government's unique nation-to-nation relationship with Tribal nations, and that as we care for these lands and waters we must honor our treaty and trust responsibilities to protect Tribal sovereignty and revitalize Tribal communities, including protecting access to resources for subsistence, and cultural and spiritual practices.

The member would support creating better pathways for agency partnership and business practices integration with Tribal nations to support Tribal co-stewardship. A critical component of success is ensuring Bureaus have the necessary tools and support to pursue co-stewardship arrangements. The member will be responsible for researching and documenting Department of Interior business practices that, consistent with the legal authorities identified by the Solicitor, can advance co-stewardship and should be considered by our parks. At the end of the

term, the member will present a playbook for utilizing the Department's business practices available to the National Park Service for advancing Tribal co-stewardship arrangements.

Schedule: Full-time position Monday to Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm. This position can be fully remote.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $680/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. A reimbursement not to exceed $1,000/month will be provided to help offset the cost of housing.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Qualifications

Required:

• Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
• Willing to undergo and must pass the required three-part criminal history check
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation
• Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement

Preferred:

• Be a currently enrolled student, possess experience, and/or demonstrated interest in Native American Studies, Anthropology, Public History, or a related discipline
