Summary American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, is seeking 3 members to contribute to restoration projects alongside BLM Staff. This is a 6 and a half month long position. It is a great opportunity for those interested in developing and facilitating restoration efforts on our public lands.

Position Overview: This position is focused on the restoration of damaged areas. It is primarily field based with some office time. As a team, the selected candidates will be responsible for identifying necessary sites, collecting and analyzing data on current conditions and past efforts to determine the appropriate next steps, and determining responsible parties. This will occur within land that is being used as an active oil/gas field. However, candidates will only focus on locations that have already been plugged and inactive for 20-30 years. At no point will the candidates ever enter hazardous sites. Additional duties and trainings are available to fit the interests of the selected candidates.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Start Date: Late January 2023 Estimated End Date: August 2023

Schedule: Schedule will primarily be 5-8s, however 4-10s may be requested to better facilitate drive times to sites.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute 40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $800/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE.

Relocation Allowance: ACE members will have access to up to $500 to be used for eligible relocation expenses. Further details regarding distribution of these funds will be provided during the interview process.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Official training will be provided for any and all responsibilities expected including land surveys, site remediation, applications of NEPA (national environmental policy act), and others as fits the interests of the selected candidates.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Qualifications

Required:

  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government agreements
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Base level of GIS experience
  • Willingness to drive in rough conditions
  • Ability to be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Willing to undergo and must pass a required background history check.
  • ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or have requested and been granted a medical or religious exemption to vaccination by the time they start their term.
  • A willingness to be flexible in day to day duties, from manual labor outside, to making maps or writing reports in the office

Preferred:

  • Experience with identifying plants to species level
  • 4x4 and/or OHV driving experience.
