GIS Technician with California State Parks

Summary:


American Conservation Experience, a nationwide Non-Profit Conservation Corps in partnership with California State Parks, is seeking one GIS Technician to dedicate six months to assist with GIS projects relating to wildfire response, FEMA reporting, Cannabis Watershed Protection Program data collection and maintenance, and other duties as necessary. The GIS Technician should possess a passion for public land management and a professional interest in advancing their career towards natural resource management.


This opportunity is intended for enthusiastic professionals, with a deep interest in town, city and regional planning as well as resource management.

Start Date: Mid to late September 2024

End Date: 6 months after start date

Living Allowance: The member should anticipate serving 40 hrs/wk and will receive a living allowance of $800/wk for food and incidentals, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and is not provided by ACE or California State Parks

Position Description:


Projects include conducting transcription and QA/QC on relevant data to ensure proper data quality and attribution; using ESRI GIS and other software to generate reports based on field-collected GIS data related to wildfire impacts on State Parks' roads, trails, and infrastructure for FEMA; data entry and conversion into compatible formats; creating maps and analyze data using ArcGIS Online and ESRI ArcGIS Pro software, Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and other programs.


Qualifications


Required:

  • Candidate must have operational proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software and online services, including ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online, as well as Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, and Word
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with reasonable accommodation
  • Proven ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Preferred:

  • Pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as Geography, GIS, Data Science, Planning, Resource Management or a related field
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and independent

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires ability to operate a computer for long periods of time.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires ability to monitor and create GIS visual maps
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: none
  • Environmental: Indoor, office conditions
  • Noise Environment: Minimum noise, and ability to use noise cancelling devices while working
  • Travel: This position does not require unique travel
