*a 24-week minimum commitment is required *

Location: Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. For more information about the park, please visit https://www.nps.gov/seki/index.htm.

Living Allowance: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $1000/week to offset the costs of housing, food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Position Description:

The selected member will serve as project coordinator for the Giant Sequoia Lands Coalition, a newly forming alliance of the 11 Federal, Tribal, State, and local land stewards who manage all giant sequoia groves existing on public lands in the Sierra Nevada mountains and share a commitment to the preservation of these iconic groves from emerging threats to their existence. The project will provide a young adult with experience working on a multi-disciplinary and interagency project and will increase the number of young adults who understand how to promote collaboration among multiple stakeholders to preserve threatened natural and cultural resources that transcend agency boundaries. The primary project objectives are to:

  • Increase understanding among youth of the differing missions of several federal, state, local and Tribal agencies that serve as habitat for giant sequoias.
  • Provide member with opportunity to gain important project management skills while providing an interface between Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park and the other coalition partners.
  • Provide member with opportunities to interact with a variety of public lands agencies.
  • Provide opportunity and feedback to member regarding effective written and oral communication strategies including the development of social media strategies and newsletters.
  • Provide opportunities for intern to gain experience in the field of knowledge management through the creation of a repository of information and tools that can be shared among coalition partners.
  • Provide member with opportunities to gain event management skills.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 by the time they start their term or request a medical or religious exemption.

Preferred:

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as conservation, environmental science, public administration.
  • Ability and willingness to interact with public and positively engage with coalition members.
  • Deep interest in conservation of Giant Sequoias and relationship building.
