Summary American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, is seeking 1 Hydrology Technician to contribute to ground-water management alongside BLM Staff for 39 weeks, or 4.5 months. Position Overview: Assist with the management of ground water in our public lands. This will require both field and office work from surveying washes and sediment fences in the field to analyzing ground-water data using Arc Hydro GIS and reporting to BLM staff.

Duties include:

• Quality control on groundwater well data to send to the BLM National Operation Center for upload into groundwater well database.
• Shadow BLM Physical Scientist - Meetings/Project planning/report writing etc.
• Inspect wells for reclamation status and report to BLM staff
• Survey Sediment fences and report to BLM staff
• Assist contractors with Groundwater studies
• Inspect washes and identify problem areas
• Drive 4x4 vehicles to remote sites.
• Analyze flowlines with roadways overlay in Arc Hydro
• Identify local

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute 40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $800/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE.

Relocation Allowance: ACE members will have access to up to $500 to be used for eligible relocation expenses. Further details regarding distribution of these funds will be provided during the interview process.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Official training will be provided any all responsibilities expected including writing reports, Driving government vehicles, identifying local vegetation, and general duties of a physical scientist in the BLM. Further training will be available depending on the interests of the candidate.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Qualifications

Required:

• Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government agreements
• A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
• Willing to undergo and must pass a required background history check.
• ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or have requested and been granted a medical or religious exemption to vaccination by the time they start their term.
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.

Preferred:

• Ability to be self-directed and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
• Background in Hydrology
• Experience with GIS, and particularly Arc Hydro
• Capable of driving in rough terrain
• Experience gathering data in the field.
• Familiarity with Vegetation ID
