Position Overview: Under direction from the Museum Curator III, the ACE Museum Collections Intern will assist with museum collections management and museum collections records management tasks for collections at the Chaw'se Regional Indian Museum at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. For the project, the ACE Intern will input data from archaeological collections into spreadsheets and databases and assist with the development and implementation of a long-term digital and physical organizational system for historic documents. These tasks will include inventory, catalog, photograph, scan existing photographs and newspaper articles, create and update museum database records, and organize storage space. This will also include researching online and physical archives to compile records on Chaw'se Regional Indian Museum. Training in the use of The Museum System (TMS) database and processes associated with the above tasks will be provided. The intern(s) will be based in Sacramento at McClellan and will travel to the Chaw'se Regional Indian Museum as needed.
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~20-24 hours a week and will receive a living allowance of $480/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. The living allowance is a fixed rate determined by the (agency) and ACE and is not flexible.
Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or California State Parks.
Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include The Museum System (TMS) database, handling and storing cultural artifacts and digitization of records.
Qualifications
Required:
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- If driving is required: A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with reasonable accommodation.

- Attention to detail, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Basic computer skills including a familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Deep interest in Native American history, archaeology, archives, or museum studies.

- Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, using hands to handle or feel, reaching, and carrying. talking and hearing. Manual dexterity required for handling fragile objects. Required to stoop, kneel, climb step ladders, pull carts, and crouch to retrieve objects.
- Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
- Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 15 lbs., ability to move up to 30 pounds.
- Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled. However there will be periodic times spent outdoors under favorable weather.
- Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
- Travel: This position will require some travel to and from the Chaw'se Regional Indian Museum.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may be expected to drive on highways in a government vehicle. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by California State Parks or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by California State Parks. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the California State Parks, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to California State Parks and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
