Summary:

American Conservation Experience (ACE), a Non-Profit Conservation Corps, in partnership with California Department of Parks and Recreation, is seeking 2 Museum Collections interns to work in Sacramento, CA.

Start Date: Soon, Preferably no later than the first week of January

End Date: 6 months after start

Location: Sacramento, California.

Living Allowance:

The member should anticipate serving 40 hrs/wk, including weekends, and will receive a living allowance of $1215/wk for food and incidentals, dispersed bi-weekly.

Travel: Some travel throughout the state will be required. Travel expenses and per diem will be provided

Housing:

Not provided, The intern responsible to find their own housing.

Position Description and Duties:

Under direction from the Museum Curator III, the ACE Museum Collections Intern will assist Statewide Museum Collections Center (SMCC) staff with providing collection management support to the park units throughout the State. For the project, the ACE Intern will perform the following tasks: inventory, photography, cataloging, data entry into the collections database (The Museum System - TMS), reconciling records, and assistance with writing collection management plans (i.e. Scope of Collection Statements, Emergency Plans, Housekeeping Plans and Integrated Pest Management Plans at SMCC, in Sacramento and at various park units. In addition, the intern will assist in processing collections from emergency response evacuations. This may include freezing, cleaning, rehousing, and updating object records into TMS. Training in cleaning and handling of a variety of object mediums and use of The Museum System (TMS) database will be provided.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability and willingness to undergo a federal criminal background check is required. Any history will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record with ability to provide required documentation. Ability to drive Agency or ACE vehicle is required for this position. ACE will conduct a driving record check upon on-boarding and member must be cleared by ACE to drive.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • An excitement for museum collection and curation.
