Museum Management Member Part Time

Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park, is seeking One Member to contribute to the Museum Management project alongside NPS curatorial Staff.

Rosie the Riveter / World War II Home Front National Historical Park, located in the wartime boomtown of Richmond, California, preserves and interprets the wide array of stories, places, and legacies of our nation's home front response to World War II. The park's physical sites and structures include industrial landscapes such as the Ford Assembly Building and Oil House and Shipyard No. 3, with its iconic Whirley Crane and SS Red Oak Victory; human service locales such as the Kaiser Field Hospital, the Maritime Child Development Center, and Fire Station 67; and residential areas such as Atchison Village. The museum collection includes one of the most comprehensive collections of written narratives, oral histories, defense industry equipment, artifacts and ephemera, photographs, and personal belongings from the American World War II home front. Through their preservation, digitization, and use in exhibition and research, the museum and archives collections are critical in providing a tangible link to the diverse stories of the home front.

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $410/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS.

Scheduling: This is a part time position. The selected member will serve a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Position Description: The Museum Management Member will work on a variety of museum program tasks focused around curatorial and collections management. These will include researching, cataloging, and photographing museum objects, digitizing archival documents, and assisting with housekeeping tasks in historic installations. The Member may also assist curatorial staff with public engagement events. Public engagement responsibilities include assistance with tabling at events and event preparation. At all times the member will be expected to represent ACE and the NPS, in a professional manner, when sharing park history and museum objects with the public.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or have requested and been granted a medical or religious exemption to vaccination by the time they start their term.

Preferred Skills:

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a degree in Anthropology, History, Museum Studies and/or have relevant experience in subject areas.
  • Knowledge of museum collection and preservation methods.
