National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Fellowship

Summary: American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) is seeking an ACE Fellow interested in dedicating 11 months to support the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program.

Start Date: February 14, 2022

End Date: January 13, 2023

Location: This will be a remote position. For more information regarding the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program, please visit the NPS website: https://www.nps.gov/orgs/1205/index.htm

Living Allowance: ACE Fellow is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $720/week to offset the costs of housing, food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Position Description: ​​Duties will include:

  • Maintain and enhance (by adding new data layers and features) Network to Freedom interactive map on program's website
  • Maintain and update data on Network to Freedom listings on which the interactive map is based
  • Develop story maps and other interpretive maps in support of the Network to Freedom
  • Work with Network to Freedom members on identifying areas at risk for coastal sea level rise and climate change

Qualifications:

Required

  • Experience using Geographic Information Systems
  • Knowledge of American History
  • Knowledge of historic preservation and cultural resources management
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 by the time they start their term or request a medical or religious exemption
