Summary:

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) is seeking 1 Member to contribute alongside NPS Staff.

Position Overview:

The Park NAGPRA Program Fellow will work with the NPS Park NAGPRA Program Manager and the NPS Bureau Cultural Anthropologist to develop updated templates and training for NPS staff on the updated NAGPRA regulations. Training will be provided in NPS content management systems as needed. The Fellow will also be trained to assist the program manager to respond to basic inquiries from park staff, monitor program email, and work with program databases and processes. The Fellow will be expected to communicate clearly with NPS staff in parks and regional offices, and on occasion, with senior NPS leadership and Tribal governments. The Fellow will have the opportunity to work with several work teams in the NPS Washington Office as well as a larger community of practice of federal NAGPRA practitioners.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $1,120/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or the NPS.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.

Qualifications

Required:

• Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
• A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of ID's upon hiring)
• Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of federal historic preservation laws, including the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
• Knowledge of the history of federal - Tribal relationships in the United States.
• Education (or equivalent) in federal historic preservation law and tribal relations, which may be demonstrated through at least an undergraduate degree in anthropology, law / government, historic preservation, or Native American Studies (highly qualified candidates will have at least some graduate-level education in the topic).
• Highly qualified candidates will have experience working with Tribal governments or NAGPRA activities.
• Experience in clear writing for multiple audiences, organizational skills to achieve work tasks, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Highly qualified candidates will demonstrate skill in developing and presenting curriculum or training for adult learners.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

• Physical Demands: Requires manual dexterity required for use of various tools, computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment.
• Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
• Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
• Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
• Travel: This position may require domestic travel.
