The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) is a professional development internship that introduces students and recent graduates, from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the National Parks, to career opportunities within Cultural Resource Management in the NPS. Minute Man National Historical Park is an iconic park where the opening battle of the Revolution is brought to life as visitors explore the battlefields and structures associated with April 19, 1775, and witness the American revolutionary spirit. Position Overview: The public history interpreter will be part of the interpretive team, orienting visitors and presenting both formal and informal interpretive programs and opportunities for the visiting public. Interpretation duties involve customer service orientation and public speaking within a safety- preservation framework and will receive training, coaching, and opportunities to develop these skills.

Interpretation at Minute Man includes leadership opportunities to provide public access to historic homes that would otherwise not be accessible. The ACE member will be educated about the park's primary themes and receive opportunities to work in other disciplines as well as explore other National Park Service units in the area. The interpreter will develop their own programs based on their own reading and research, present interpretive programs to the public on a regular basis, work as a member of the interpretive team and post messages about the park story and their work in the park through social media.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: This position is scheduled for a five day work week from 8:45am to 5:15pm with some weekends required for special events and programming.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $520/week to offset the costs of food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. There may also be some additional funds to reimburse relocation expenses.

AmeriCorps Education Award Program: This position may be eligible for a 300-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($1,374.60) upon successful completion of service hours.

Loan Forbearance: AmeriCorps members may also be eligible for federal loan forbearance. Additional enrollment steps are required.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority:Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Housing: ACE members will be accommodated in provided housing at no cost for the duration of the term.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. The ACE member will receive training in 20th century interpretation, working with families and youth, creating digital content, a history of the park, and a history of the National Park Service.

Qualifications

Required:

• Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
• A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request)
• Willing to undergo and must pass required three-part criminal history checks
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or have requested and been granted a medical or religious exemption to vaccination by the time they start their term
• ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation
• Members may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement or as defined by AmeriCorps

• Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a degree in Public History, Cultural Resource Management and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as Interpretation

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

• Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking,carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing. Manual dexterity required for computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.
• Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
• Environmental: Days are divided into indoor and outdoor work locations. Indoor office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled. Outdoor work includes a range of conditions, including hot sunny days and cool rainy days. Temperatures range from 40 - 70 degrees Fahrenheit.The ACE member may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat, rocky terrain, and biting insects. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
• Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
• Travel: This position does not require unique travel.

Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the agency/partner or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the agency/partner. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the agency/partner, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to agency/partner and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
