Location Details/Description: Anchorage, Alaska

The BLM Alaska State Office is located in Anchorage, Alaska. BLM Alaska manages over 70 million surface acres and 220 million subsurface acres (Federal mineral estate) in a state with a landmass equivalent to about one-fifth of the entire contiguous United States. BLM Alaska's recreation program is diverse, home to six Wild and Scenic Rivers, Iditarod National Historic Trail, White Mountains National Recreation Area and 12 public use cabins, Steese National Conservation Area, hundreds of miles of trails, 16 campgrounds, over 20 public use cabins, and numerous wayside locations.

Position Overview: The ACE member will directly review and analyze content related to the BLM Alaska web-based recreation content, assist the BLM with compiling information for up to one business plan for recreation fee site management and modifications, and participate in the review of the Recreation Management Information System (RMIS). In addition, the ACE member will assist the BLM Alaska recreation program lead in the preparation, compilation, and organization of the Congressionally directed AK Long Trail feasibility study. This study will evaluate the proposal of the AK Long Trail as a unit to be possibly included into the National Trails System as a National Scenic Trail.

The ACE member will review and edit web pages, review new recreation fee site business plans, provide development assistance with new recreation brochures, perform RMIS data site review, and review GIS maps, help schedule meetings, and engage with multiple partners, other Federal and state agencies, and learn NEPA planning requirements. Opportunities to support local BLM recreation field work, including trail maintenance and construction, youth outreach and education, partnership development, and commercial recreation permitting experience may occur. This is not a remote position though there maybe opportunities to telework at times.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, flexible schedule adjustable for the applicant between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Position Benefits

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~35 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $600/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly. The living allowance is a fixed rate determined by the Bureau of Land Management and ACE and is not flexible.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or the Bureau of Land Management.

Housing Assistance: ACE Members will be eligible for reimbursable housing assistance up to $365 per week. The ACE Member will only be reimbursed for approved and demonstrated housing expenses.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include standard BLM tranings and DOI Talent courses (time permitting).

Qualifications

Required:

• Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
• A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of ID's upon hiring)
• Willing to undergo and must pass the required two-part criminal history check.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

BLM Requirements:

• Ability to pass a Federal background investigation

Preferred:

• Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as technical writing, working in diverse team environments, and natural resource management.
• Applicant should be able to utilize all Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of general recreation and public land management.
• Ability and willingness to collaborate with a variety of specialists, organize and verify program data, and provide status updates on project timelines.
