Summary: American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Telling All Americans' Stories Fellow to research and develop content about underrepresented history as part of the Cultural Resources Office of Interpretation and Education (CROIE).

Start Date: Fall 2022

Duration: 54 weeks

Location & Schedule: Remote or hybrid work options available. CROIE's main office is located in Washington, D.C. so all team meetings will be held on Eastern time during core working hours, 10am-4pm ET.

Living Allowance: The ACE Fellow is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $1,200/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: Housing is not provided by ACE or NPS and is the responsibility of the ACE Fellow. A reimbursement of $750/month will be offered to help offset the cost of housing.

Position Description: The Cultural Resources Office of Education and Interpretation is part of the Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Directorate of the National Park Service (NPS). It is home to the digital humanities site, Telling All Americans' Stories. We celebrate and commemorate history and culture across the United States through encouraging online visitors to discover national parks, heritage areas, historic places, and more both on the ground and online. We collaborate to tell all Americans' stories and promote cultural resources workforce development through youth employment opportunities.

The ACE Fellow will perform a range of tasks that connect students, families, educators and travelers with historic sites. The Fellow will manage, maintain, and update Telling All Americans' Stories and associated subject sites. The Fellow will research and develop content with special attention to underrepresented history and will highlight the relevance of history and heritage to the present and future. The Fellow will bring together such history uncovered by parks, regions, and programs into national stories, including that of the America at 250 commemoration which will expand the stories of the development of the nation to tell a more complete history. The Fellow will communicate with the field and relevant partners and scholars, collect research and project stories, perform research, create national context(s), and create digital content to share the information out more broadly (such as shared content on nps.gov and potentially other products). The Fellow will support other office programs as needed.

The ACE Fellow will be an essential member of the team and will communicate with relevant partners, scholars, interns, and others in a collaborative atmosphere. They will have the opportunity to interact with NPS staff members in a variety of NPS cultural resource programs. There are also funds available to reimburse the ACE Fellow for professional development costs like conferences, training, certifications, etc.

Qualifications:

Required

• Education and interest or experience in one or more cultural resource fields (history, archeology, cultural anthropology, museum studies, historic preservation, or related)
• Strong research skills
• Strong communication skills including writing for variety of audiences, editing, research (primary, secondary, visual sources), expressing scholarship in accessible language, basic digital skills.
• Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
• Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
• US Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

• Skills in content management systems for online content.
