ACE EPIC USFS (CA): Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician, California State Parks
Summary:
American Conservation Experience, a nationwide Non-Profit Conservation Corps in partnership with California State Parks, is seeking one GIS Technician to dedicate six months to assist with GIS projects relating to infrastructure inventory, Cannabis Watershed Protection Program data collection and maintenance, wildfire response, FEMA reporting, and other duties as necessary. The GIS Technician should possess a passion for public land management and a professional interest in advancing their career towards natural resource management.
This opportunity is intended for enthusiastic professionals, with a deep interest in conservation and recreation planning as well as resource management.
Start Date:(Flexible) November 1st / November 8th.
End Date: 6 months after start date

Living Allowance: The member should anticipate serving 40 hrs/wk and will receive a living allowance of $650/wk for food and incidentals, dispersed bi-weekly.
Position Description:
Projects include conducting QA/QC on relevant GIS data to ensure proper data quality and attribution; using ESRI GIS and other software to generate reports based on field-collected GIS data related to State Parks' roads, trails, and infrastructure; data entry and conversion into compatible formats; creating location maps and analyze data with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap software, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and other programs. Assist Cannabis Watershed Protection Program staff with analysis, processing, mapping, and sharing of data related to cannabis growth on State Parks lands.
Position responsibilities include:
- 45%-GIS data analysis, field app use, and generation of cartographic output
- 35%-Data entry, quality control, management, sharing, and storage
- 10%-Generation of FEMA required reports based on GPS data of wildfire impacts
- 10%- Duties as required, such as organizing and activities in accordance with the
mission of DPR
Qualifications
Required:
- Candidate must have operational proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software and
online services, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online, as well as
Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, and Word
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Proven ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with resource professionals
- Proficient in English
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request)
- Ability to pass a federal criminal background check
- ACE is a drug free workplace and reserves the right to drug test at any time
Preferred:
- Applicants for the position must hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as Geography, GIS, Planning, Resource Management or a related field
- Knowledge of California State Parks general operations
- Ability and willingness to be flexible and independent
