CRDIP Public History Interpreter- Minute Man National Historical Park

Summary: American Conservation Experience (ACE), a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) is seeking a Public History Interpreter interested in dedicating 11 weeks in support of Minute Man National Historical Park in presenting both formal and informal interpretive programs.

The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) is a professional development internship that introduces students, from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the National Parks, to career opportunities within Cultural Resource Management in the NPS. Applicants must be 18-30 (up to 35 for Veterans) and either A) in pursuit of a higher education degree or B) still be within two years of graduation from a degree program. CRDIP participants will have the opportunity to attend several professional development webinars as well as write blogs or create videos about their projects throughout the summer.

Location: Minute Man National Historical Park- Concord, MA

Minute Man National Historical Park is an iconic park where the opening battle of the Revolution is brought to life as visitors explore the battlefields and structures associated with April 19, 1775, and witness the American revolutionary spirit.

Living Allowance: ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $520/week to offset the costs of housing, food, and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Housing: NPS dorm style housing will be available at no cost.

Position Description:

The public history interpreter will be part of the interpretive team, orienting visitors and presenting both formal and informal interpretive programs and opportunities for the visiting public. Interpretation duties involve customer service orientation and public speaking within a safety- preservation framework and will receive training, coaching, and opportunities to develop these skills.

Interpretation at Minute Man includes the opportunity to present living history. The ACE member will be educated about the material culture of the period with the possibility of being outfitted with colonial clothing and receive training in musket firing. Living History interpreters will participate in special park events, present new interpretations for the public at "witness structures'' such as the Hartwell Tavern or the Whittemore House about colonial life, and have the opportunity to explore re-enacting. The interpreter will develop their own programs, based on their own reading and research, create an 18th century impression for living history, present interpretive programs to the public on a regular basis, work as a member of the interpretive team, post messages about the park story and their work in the park through social media, and provide a written reflective essay about the meaning or value of the experience to them, personally.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • ACE Members must verify that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 by the time they start their term or request a medical or religious exemption
